Illustration
“Sunflower” is an original illustration drawn with a felt-tip writing pen on 12” x 18” sketch paper during the artist’s first year of undergraduate study at the age of 19. Drawn from an original flower and rendered with hundreds of fine cross-hatched strokes, this piece is one of a series of ten drawings of similar style made during the same time period. Other drawings in the collection feature gladiolas, lilies, irises and the like – each drawn from a different angle, overlapped to create a balanced composition. The series of ink illustrations were all completed 1994-1995 and recently exhibited at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 2009, this one featured in Tank’s A View on Harvard GSD.
